 CHILDREN’S CLASSES

Native American & Nature Camp

Come explore Native American culture and the beauty of nature through art, music, stories, and games.  Children will be engaged in active, hands-on learning and fun through creating Native American crafts such as making a coup stick, learning chants and making a drum, hearing traditional stories, and playing games such as the stick game. The week will be full of opportunities to learn from the wisdom of Native Americans and to enjoy the beauty of Poplar Grove.

 June 29 - July 3; July 27 - 31

The Art of Storytelling Camp
Sherry Lovett, teacher

Sherry Lovett has been an educator for seventeen years and has loved stories and nature since she was a child.  She is now a professional storyteller and continues down the path of education by working with small groups of children including her own whom she home schools.  She considers learning to be a lifelong endeavor and subscribes to the idea that education is the lighting of flame, not the filling of a pail.

Everyone loves a story!  Come hear many different kinds of stories and learn how to tell your own.  We will use art, music, and games to bring out the storyteller in each child. They will have the opportunity to create their own stories as well as learn well-known stories.  They will learn how to use their voice and body language to make a story come alive, so that they can perform their own story at the end of the week.
