Costumed guides lead visitors through this lovingly restored 1850 manor house and recount  the plantation's history.   Skills important to daily 19th-century life, such as blacksmithing, spinning, weaving, smithery and basketry are demonstrated, and guests are invited to walk the estate's grounds to view the plantation's outbuildings, exhibits and animals.  

General Group Tours
Cost per person for  groups of 15 or more, $8 per person.  Includes house tour with costumed guide, two craft demonstrations, grounds and exhibits, two complimentary host passes, free motor coach parking, picnic area and playground.

 Hands-on Activities 
Poplar Grove offers a variety of Hands-On Activities for adults who are kids-at heart.   Select the activity for your group from the list below, then give us a call to reserve the date.  Prices are per person.
 

Wicks n’ Wax

Today candles are for romance, scent, and ceremony.  Back in olden times, candles were essential for traveling at night and for early rising farmers.  Come work a wick in wax, so easy even your group leader can do it !  
Cost is $20 and includes candle class and candles to take home.

 

 

The Un-Covered Wagon
 
                                     

 

 

Hop on the hay and you’ll be waggin’ through the woods.  A pleasant ride through forests and fields where peanuts grew and grain was ground. 

Cost is $11 and includes hayride through the nature preserve. 

 

 

 



Walk, Wander and Ponder

Enter another world as you walk through Abbey Nature Preserve where green forests envelop you and, the serenity of the old mill pond restores the spirit.  Here, nature and nurture live happily together.  Guided 1 mile walk on the canopied  trail and over the mill pond bridge.

Cost is $20.

Plantation Tea

Korean Celadon Teapots

 

Lordy, Lordy Miz Scaahlet, is it tea time?  Freshly baked scones and the prettiest little  tea sandwiches this side of Tara .  Under the big old shade trees, in the courtyard or by the gazebo.

 

Cost is $30 and includes plantation tea.

 

 

 

 

Be My Sugar Baby

Known as Church Dolls, Pew Babies, and Prayer Dolls, these little darlings were one of the few toys permitted in church.  Mothers would fill the heads with sugar to keep children quiet during Sunday services.  

Cost is $20 and includes doll making class and doll to take home.

Every Wednesday from 8am to 1pm it’s all about North Carolina at Poplar Grove’s Farmers Market.  If it’s not locally grown or made, it’s not here!  One of kind hand crafted souvenirs and gifts, the freshest foods. 

Cost is $8 per person and includes farmers market.

Poplar Grove Plantation is a very popular place.  Please call us with your reservation as soon as possible.  VISA and MasterCard are accepted.  Full payment is due within 7 days and is fully refundable up to 48 hours before scheduled arrival.  After that time, a $50 cancellation fee applies.  

We regret that because of the historic value of our site, not all of Poplar Grove is handicap accessible.
